Open House

“Let us celebrate the occasion with wine and sweet words.” – Plautus

Joy and Gratitude

The holiday season is a time to celebrate and be joyous, but perhaps more importantly, it’s a time to be grateful. Indeed, we at Blackwood Lane Winery have much for which to be thankful, and we love sharing our gratitude (and our world-class wines) with our friends by hosting an annual Open House!

The Release of the 2012 Special Edition Vicuña Roja

This year’s Open House was especially exciting as we celebrated the release of our 2012 Special Edition Vicuña Roja, our signature house red Bordeaux-style blend. This blend is a foodie’s delight, with a bouquet of chocolate, licorice, blackberries, cassis, violets and soft nutty nutmeg aromas.

Feeling the Love

This year’s Open House was truly a delight as friends – new and old – came together to fête one of the best things in life: great wine! As Benjamin Franklin once said, “wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.” It was clear that everyone who attended, no matter where they came from or where they’ve been, all united around Franklin’s truth! We definitely felt the love at our Open House!

Perfect Pairing

It’s not hard to feel the love when imbibing world-class wines paired with a selection of delectable canapés and hors d'oeuvres, prepared by Chef Roger of Culinary Adventure. The food exquisitely complimented the wine, amplifying flavours, textures, and aromas!

Sensory Synesthesia

Author, Judith Viorst, once wrote that friends “contribute to our personal pleasure, making the music sound sweeter, the wine taste richer, the laughter ring louder because they are there.” Indeed, as the night got rolling, the laughter, revelry and good cheer, accompanied by fine wines and culinary delights, culminated into a sensory synesthesia that only the best company, food, and wine can achieve!

Marise and Chris

Marise has been coming to Blackwood Lane Winery for a long time! When trying to think of just how long, she commented “the oldest bottle I have is a 2006 Alliànce, so that was when I first started coming here! I love it here because it feels like home – like family.” Her partner, Chris, is newer to Blackwood Lane, but stated that “you come here and it’s instantly comfortable. There’s no pressure or pretentiousness. Everyone here is friendly, smiling and welcoming!”

Aron and Maryam

Aron started coming to Blackwood Lane about 12 years ago and has been a member for 10. He explains, “I used to do wine tours in the Lower Mainland and the Okanagan. One year I took a tour out here and was amazed at the quality of the wine! Now I tell people who are on a wine tour to be sure to come here last, otherwise all the other wines they sample will be ruined, as you really can’t beat the wines here! World-class all the way!” Aron’s wife, Maryam, added, “the quality of the wine is incredible, and we’ve tasted a lot of wine! Carlos is simply number one!”

We asked guests to arrive in their woolliest “Vicuña” attire to be entered in our “Best Dressed” contest. Congratulations to Wanita Van Leeuwen who won the door prize, a bottle of our newly released 2012 Special Edition Vicuña Roja!

Thank You

We are so appreciative of all our Blackwood Lane friends and can’t wait to see you throughout the year! It was a magical night of open minds, open spirits, and most of all, open bottles!
