What’s black and white and red all over? No, it’s not a newspaper! The correct answer is Blackwood Lane Winery’s Black and White themed Cabernet Sauvignon release party!
Walking into the grand tasting room for Blackwood Lane’s much-anticipated release of their 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon was reminiscent of the iconic black and white party scene at the end of the classic film “An American in Paris.” You know, that scene where charming Parisienne, Leslie Caron falls in love with the ebullient American, Gene Kelly! It’s an apropos reference as Carlos’ winemaking techniques are wholly inspired by the grand traditions of the French! This is why his Cabernet Sauvignon rivals the best wines in the world!
May and Darren
Indeed, Darren, who had his first taste of Blackwood Lane’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon that evening remarked, “hands down, this is the best Cab Sauv I’ve ever had! It’s the first time that I can really taste the flavours that people talk about when they discuss wine! It makes me want to learn more about wine in general.” It’s no surprise that Darren and his wife, May, became members of our Sommelier Club that evening.
May, who was also new to Blackwood Lane, commented, “I love the finish; there’s no weird aftertaste that is common with so many lesser wines. It fills all the parts of my mouth and has a wonderful balance and fabulous florals!”
Ironically, the Black and White theme stood in stark contrast to the Cabernet Sauvignon itself, whose flavours, notes and textures are anything but two-toned. In contrast (pun intended) the adjective of the evening was “complex.”
Ken and Pamela
Ken, a member of Blackwood’s Sommelier Club, emphatically stated, “this is the most complex Cab Sauv I’ve ever had!” A sentiment which was echoed by Ken’s wife, Pamela, who added, “its complexity is one of the things I love most about this Cab Sauv.”
Chris and Carol
Chris and his wife Carol, longtime sommelier members, both agreed that the 2010 Cab Sauv is the best they’ve had in a very long time. Chris further noted, “Blackwood is perhaps the only winery in Canada that releases wine like this. Carlos only releases his wine when he feels it’s ready, and no sooner! He won’t sell it unless it’s been properly cellared.” Carol exclaimed, “this Cab Sauv is 2010, and just released in 2018. And it’s aged beautifully!”
A Wine for All Seasons
One of the wonderful aspects of Carlos’ 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is its versatility. You can imbibe this wine at a 5-star restaurant or enjoy it at home with Pizza and a movie! Carlos’ team prepared tantalizing tacos for the evening, demonstrating just how well his Cab Sauv can pair with almost any type of culinary creations you can think of! He also marinated the taco meat in his Cab Sauv, which brought out the most delightful flavours!
The release party was truly a grand success, and while guests were dressed in their finest black and white outfits, it was the guest of honour, with its gorgeous shade of crimson that stole the show! Bravo to Carlos and his exquisite 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon!
